Woodward’s

Director Janine Hosking screened the award-winning film Australian film 35 Letters at the SFU’s Goldcorp Centre for the Arts on March 11. The film explored young woman Angelique Flowers’s struggles through the last months of cancer. This documentary, followed by a panel discussion with Flowers’ sister, invited viewers to examine difficult questions of living with terminal illness and wanting to die with dignity.

Surrey

Surrey Campus welcomed guests to an information session for SFU’s Occupational Health and Safety Diploma on March 11. Those interested in safety professions had an opportunity to learn more about the importance of health and safety management in the workplace, and its relationship to productivity, worksite operation, and workers’ health.

Harbour Centre

SFU’s Latin American Studies program introduced a public lecture titled “Lecture Civil Society, Public Policy, and the Quality of Democracy in Latin America” on March 10. Using Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, and Peru as examples, professor Gabriela Ippolito-O’Donnell explored the influence of civil society organizations on democratization in those countries.
