Students vote yes to Build SFU project

After a year of uncertainty as to how Build SFU would proceed, SFU students voted “yes” to both the Student Union Building (SUB) and Stadium projects at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in the West Gym on Tuesday.

The decision was prefaced by roughly an hour and a half of discussion, including presentations from many members of the Simon Fraser Student Society (SFSS) as well as from the opposition movement, No to Build SFU. The votes on the SUB and Stadium were split into independent motions in response to criticism towards the society’s Special General Meeting in January.

Ultimately, the motion to approve the debenture for the SUB passed with 86 per cent of voters in favour of approving the debenture. The Stadium passed by a slightly smaller margin, with 81 per cent casting a yes vote.

Over the years, I have grown progressively taken aback by the price sticker on the back...
