BC government cancels overdose prevention site replacement in Vancouver

By: Cazzy Lewchuk, Staff Writer On August 25, the BC minister of health, Ravi Kahlon announced the cancellation of an overdose prevention site in downtown Vancouver. The original site first opened in Yaletown in March 2021 on 1101 Seymour. It was relocated to 1000 Howe Street in April 2024. This location then closed earlier this year on January 31. Both sites were ordered to close after community complaints. Overdose prevention and safe consumption sites are spaces where people who use drugs can be supervised to prevent overdoses.
