Unlike standard narrative cinema, which demands us to evaluate artistic choices and dramatic pacing, watching a reenactment of searing political acts forces us to reckon with living history. So it was the case with director Maurice Bulbulian’s 1987 two-part documentary, which presents an intimate record of the First Ministers’ Conferences on Indigenous Constitutional Matters between 1983 and 1987.
